We are going to be examining the bottom MOC photograph in the Bend at Reull Vallis series. Some promising areas for further study are circled in blue.

| First, the primary feature of this landscape is a steep
cliff or bluff, roughly 460 meters (1500 feet) high. Bearing in mind Mars's weaker gravity (3.72 m/s2, about 1/3 of Earth's), it would still be quite difficult to descend from the mesa to the valley floor in a land vehicle without a good trail or road. | |
| | The incline is too steep. What we'd need is a gently-descending trail. A suggested trail is marked with a dashed line. Too bad the photo ends here; we'd like to see where this trail goes. |
The dark areas below the cliff face might be mineral deposits, dark-colored sand, overhangs that are in shadow, or possibly even caves. There's a lot more to see here.
